Most people are afraid of sharks. I was one of those people. Although , I didn't know it until I was on a boat surrounded by dozens of 10-12 foot Galapagos sharks, and soon after thrown into a cage in the middle of the ocean with them. I'm sure that most of you reading this, are thinking that I'm an insane psychopath. This is exactly what I thought before I climbed into the cage. The other small percentage of you are probably thinking about how much fun this would be, and that is what I thought as soon as I took a deep breath and looked under the water!

Many people have since asked me if I still have all my body parts, which I do. Thankfully these guys weren't hungry enough to take one of my limbs with them. Another question I've been asked is if they bit at the cage. Again, no this did not happen. Most of the time when you watch a video where a shark approaching a cage or camera with an open mouth full of sharp teeth, someone is holding fish or food that entices the sharks. But for some reason they didn't give us any fish to take in the cage, something about safety? These guys have actually associated the engines on these cage diving boats with that of the ones of fisherman who throw their unwanted catches over board, feeding the sharks. Therefore allowing tourists to get the experience of seeing the sharks without the added danger.

Believe it or not, everyone on the boat that day had a very enjoyable experience. I would do this again in a heartbeat! In fact, there are some tours that will take you out without the cage (don't tell my mom).

This was something I have had on my bucket list my entire life. While this might not be for everyone, I can tell you that you would never regret it! Oh, and did you know, that they like to eat orange peels?

Below are some more pictures of our experience that day, as well as a link to the website for the people who made this possible for us. I strongly encourage you to visit their site and read about the work that they do. I also encourage you to try this some day, and tell me about it when you do.
